"Education for responsibility" is the mission of Nürtingen-Geislingen University (NGU), a state-run university in southwest Germany with over 5,000 students enrolled in 32 bachelor and master programmes. NGU is fully committed to sustainable development. Its profile is shaped by sustainability combined with a strong applied approach in teaching, research, transfer and continuing education. NGU is home to eight research institutes where experienced researchers and Ph.D. students work on cutting-edge issues from biodiversity, bioenergy and sustainable agriculture to urban development, art therapy and green consumption.

German Institute for Japanese Studies (DIJ), Tokyo
The DIJ is a German research institute based in Tokyo. It is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. DIJ’s research focuses on modern Japan in a global context. DIJ’s mission is to enhance knowledge and understanding of modern Japanese society, economy, politics and culture, as well as Japan’s international relations, by applying and advancing methods and theories from both the humanities and the social sciences. Comparative perspectives as well as multi- and interdisciplinary approaches are central to these research activities. The institute develops young scholars, builds networks and disseminates knowledge about Japan not only among experts in academia, but also with decision-makers both in Japan and overseas, as well as with the interested public.

German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo (DWIH Tokyo)
The German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo (DWIH Tokyo) is a platform for German universities, research institutions and research-based companies in Japan. It represents and promotes Germany as a location for science, research and innovation. It supports knowledge exchange between Germany and Japan, and communicates with relevant stakeholders in both countries, thereby creating the preconditions for research cooperation. In doing so, it relies on its research-based supporters in Germany who facilitate and shape the work of DWIH Tokyo on the ground. DWIH Tokyo is part of a global network of six German Centres for Research and Innovation. Since its establishment in 2010, it has been supported by the German Federal Foreign Office. It has been coordinated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) since 2017.
